What are Non-Work Exceptions in Projectal?

Modified on Fri, 9 Jun, 2023 at 4:12 PM

Non-work exceptions (or sometimes called non-work events) in Projectal are used when your staff are not available for work.  Typically, this means they may be taking a vacation or have personal commitments or family commitments.

Example: Andrew is having two weeks holiday in Spain in November.

Example: Fiona is having a baby and will be taking 6 months maternity leave starting in March.

Example: Oscar needs to have an urgent medical procedure and is unavailable next week.

Each staff member has their own set of non-work exceptions recorded in their staff records in Projectal.  They can be viewed and managed in the Edit Staff screen.

A non-work exception has a name, start date and finish date.

Tip: It is also possible to enter work exceptions in Projectal.  These are special cases you wish to override days where there is a national or public holiday (e.g. New Years Day or Christmas Day) and state that a staff member will actually be working on this holiday due to special circumstances.

Syncing with Human Resources (HR) tools

If your company uses a HR tool and it already contains your staff details (including their non-work exceptions), then it may be best for Projectal to automatically sync the staff details from your HR tool.  This eliminates double entry and keeps Projectal up-to-date whenever changes are made in your HR tool.

Using the Projectal API, webhooks and Python library, connectors can be created to sync HR data from popular HR tools into Projectal.  Contact the Projectal Support team to inquire about their library of pre-built connectors that are available to you as a Projectal customer - including BambooHR, Xero and more.  Or, the Projectal Support team can assist to get you up and running with a new connector for your HR tool.
