What are Sandboxes in Projectal?

Modified on Wed, 5 Feb at 6:53 AM

A sandbox is your own personal workspace in Projectal whereby you can make private changes and see the results without affecting the live Projectal.

This is very useful when you wish to explore, experiment and try various scenarios in Projectal.  Scenario planning greatly assists you to determine the best course of action for your project, department, office or company.

Example: You want to see what would happen to a project schedule and its costs if you added 6 freelancers to the project team.  This planning decision is sensitive so you do this work in a sandbox that is private to you.

You can create many sandboxes in Projectal and make changes to companies, departments, locations, projects, tasks, staff, resources, salaries, schedules, costs and more.  These changes will not affect the live Projectal and are totally private so that they will not be seen by other users (unless you share your sandbox).

When you create a sandbox in Projectal, the sandbox is a snapshot of that particular date and time.  Any changes made later in the live Projectal will not be seen in your sandbox.

Example: You created a sandbox on the 2nd February 2025.  Since then, new projects and new staff have been added into the live Projectal.  These new projects and staff will not appear in your sandbox since they were added after you created your sandbox.

Your sandboxes are automatically saved when you make changes in your sandbox.  They are only deleted when you choose to delete them.

You can quickly switch back and forth between your sandboxes, the live Projectal and the Time Machine at any time. This is handy to compare your sandbox with the live Projectal or a moment in the past with your sandbox's data.

If you wish to collaborate with others during your scenario planning, you can share your sandbox with selected staff so they can view your sandbox and its results, or also make changes in your sandbox.

Example: You are a member of the Finance team and are adjusting staff salaries to fit next year's budget.  You have created a sandbox to do this confidential work.  You have shared the sandbox with other members of the Finance team so the Finance team can all collaborate and review together.
