Indenting or Outdenting a Task

In large projects, you will want to organize all your tasks into groups so that you can understand and track each subtask within the project.  Projectal lets you group tasks using summary tasks.  By adding tasks into summary tasks, you can structure your project into a hierarchy that is easier to manage and track.


You can edit a task and set the parent task in the Edit Task modal.  Another way to set the parent of your tasks is using the Indent and Outdent buttons in the Tasks screen and Gantt screen.


Indenting

Indenting a task means setting the selected task to be parented to a summary task on the same hierarchical level as the task.  The result will be the task will now be parented one level below its current level.


To indent a task in Projectal, follow these steps:


  1. Go to the Projects screen by clicking Projects on the left sidebar.
  2. Find the project you wish to work on and click on it to enter the project.
  3. Click on Tasks or Gantt on the left sidebar to enter the Tasks view or Gantt view of the project.
  4. Select a task and click the Indent Task button on the Tasks screen toolbar or Gantt screen toolbar.
  5. The task will now be parented to a summary task and will be one level below its current level.


Outdenting

Outdenting a task means setting the selected task to be parented to a summary task one level above the hierarchical level of the task.  The result will be the task will now be parented one level above its current level.


To outdent a task in Projectal, follow these steps:


  1. Go to the Projects screen by clicking Projects on the left sidebar.
  2. Find the project you wish to work on and click on it to enter the project.
  3. Click on Tasks or Gantt on the left sidebar to enter the Tasks view or Gantt view of the project.
  4. Select a task and click the Outdent Task button on the Tasks screen toolbar or Gantt screen toolbar.
  5. The task will now be parented to a summary task and will be one level above its current level.
