Inserting Task Templates into Projects

Modified on Sun, 09 Oct 2022 at 11:19 AM

Task templates can be inserted into a project.  This allows you to add sets of tasks into projects in a quick, reliable and repeatable manner to help you bid, budget, plan and schedule your projects.

To insert a task template in a project, there are two ways:

  • Via the Insert Task Template button on the toolbar on Tasks screen or Gantt screen
  • Via the Task Template column on the Tasks screen or Gantt screen

Using the Insert Task Template button on the toolbar on Tasks screen / Gantt screen

On the Tasks screen or Gantt screen, follow these steps:

  1. By default, a task template will be inserted at the end of your list of tasks in a project.  If you wish to add the task template under a specific summary task, then select the summary task prior to inserting the task template.
  2. Click the Insert Task Template button on the Tasks screen toolbar or Gantt screen toolbar.  This will display the Task Templates screen.
  3. Select a task template from the Task Templates screen.
  4. The selected task template will be added into the list of tasks in the project.

Example: You may wish to have a standard, boilerplate project template for all projects in your company.  This would create a consistent approach to handling your projects.  To do this, you could create a task template (e.g. called "Project Template") that specifies your company's preferred project structure and instruct your staff when creating a new project to insert this boilerplate task template as a first step to get the initial structure for your company's projects.

Using the Task Template column on the Tasks screen / Gantt screen

On the Tasks screen or Gantt screen, follow these steps:

  1. Click on a column header and make sure the Task Template column is displayed in the Task screen or Gantt screen. Once displayed, then you can click on cells for this column for summary tasks (not tasks or milestones).
  2. Double-click on a Task Template cell for a summary task in the list of tasks and the Task Templates screen will be displayed.
  3. Select a task template from the Task Templates screen.
  4. The selected task template will be added under the selected summary task in the project.

Note: The inserted summary task will replace all the tasks and milestones currently under the summary task where you have inserted the task template.
