Task templates can be easily created from sets of tasks from within your projects. This allows you to identify commonly used set of tasks and save them as task templates for future use in other projects. Building a library of task templates (or snippets of knowledge) ensures that your company uses consistent, repeatable sets of task when bidding, budgeting, planning and scheduling projects. Task templates also help retain knowledge within your company.
Example: You have finished an animation project and found that a set of tasks to create a CG character in the animation project is the preferred way for your company to complete this type of animation work in the future. In Projectal, you can select this set of tasks in the project and save them as a task template for future use in other animation projects where CG characters are required.
To create a task template from a set of tasks within a project, on the Tasks screen or Gantt screen, follow these steps:
- Select the set of tasks you wish to save or just the summary task that contains the set of subtasks.
- Click the Save As Task Template button on the Tasks screen toolbar or Gantt screen toolbar. This will display the New Task Template screen.
- Enter a name and description for the new task template.
- The task template will be created and listed in the Task Templates screen.
Tip: After saving the new task template, go to the Management screen and click on the Task Templates button to display the Task Templates screen. Locate the new task template and edit it to make sure it contains all the tasks, duration values, predecessors, skills, assigned staff and assigned resources that you want. You may also may want to test the task template by inserting the task template into an empty project to make sure it works as you wish.
