When you need to split a task into smaller tasks, then you can use the Split Tasks screen in Projectal.
- Go to the Tasks screen or Gantt screen in Projectal and edit the task you wish to split.
- On the Edit Task screen, click the Split Task button at the bottom left side of the Edit Task screen.
- The Split Task screen will be displayed and this lets you break up the task into smaller task segments.

Start Date
Click on the date picker or time picker to enter the start date and time for the task segment.
Finish Date
Click on the date picker or time picker to enter the finish date and time for the task segment. The estimated duration will be adjusted.
Estimated Duration
Enter the estimated duration for the task segment. The finish date will be adjusted.
Add
Click the Add button to add another task split.
Delete
Click the Delete button to delete the task segment.
Auto Split
Enter the duration interval you wish to split the task by and click the Auto Split button. The task will be split into smaller tasks based on the duration you have specified. You can use the following units to specify the interval time required:
- m - minutes. Example: 30m = 30 minutes.
- h - hours. Examples: 6h = 6 hours. 1.5h = 90 minutes.
- D - days. Examples: 10D = 10 days. 3.5D = 3.5 days.
- W - weeks. Examples: 3W = 3 weeks. 6.5W = 6.5 weeks.
- M - months. Example: 2M = 2 months. 1.25M = 1.25 months.
- Y - years. Example: 1Y = 1 year. 2.5Y = 2.5 years.
Tip: You can add many tasks segments using the Add button. The task segments can have any start date and finish dates. They may overlap with other task segments.Tip: After clicking OK to save the task segments, Projectal will automatically create the new tasks to match the dates and duration that you have selected. All details for the newly created tasks will have been copied from the original task - including name, description, assigned staff, status and more.Was this article helpful?
