Using Head Count to Plan Your Team Size

Modified on Tue, 23 Apr at 12:52 PM

Head count (or full time equivalent) is a great way in Projectal to see how many staff are required for current projects and your upcoming projects.

To view head count metrics in Staff Planner, select Head Count (FTE) on the Units menu on the Staff Planner toolbar.  Once selected, the usage data will show the number of staff required for each timescale cell (example, each day, week, month or year).

By using grouping, you can see the head count metrics for your departments, locations and more.

Example: To view the head count requirements for your departments, turn on Departments on the Grouping menu, then turn on Head Count (FTE) on the Units menu and turn on Usage on the Show menu.

Example: To view the head count requirements for your office locations, turn on Locations on the Grouping menu, then turn on Head Count (FTE) on the Units menu and turn on Usage on the Show menu.

If a cell is colored red, then this alerts you that the number of staff exceeds the number of staff available in that department, location, etc.  This over allocation is a risk to the company whereby the staff may not be able to complete the work in the time allocated.

Hover your mouse over a head count cell and it will display the number of staff required and the number of staff available in that day, week, month or year.

Click on the head count cell to view the bookings, activities and tasks allocated for that day, week, month or year.
