Using the Projects Screen - Card View

The Projects screen - Card View displays all projects in Projectal as cards with the key metrics displayed on them so that you can quickly see the health of projects at a quick glance.  


You can choose the metrics you wish to display on your project cards, including:

  • Project avatar image
  • Project banner image
  • Project progress
  • Project start date and finish date
  • Project costs - including fixed costs, estimated costs, actual costs to date and the difference
  • Project duration - including estimated duration, actual duration (or work effort) to date and the difference.


You can click on a card to go directly to that project's dashboard.


You can filter the cards by any related data attribute such as name, customer, status and location.


You can create your own views of the Projects screen and save them for recall at a later date.  You can share these views with other Projectal users.


You can favorite projects and have them pinned to the top of the Projects screen.



Getting to the Projects screen - Card View

  1. Click on Projects on the left sidebar to display the Projects screen.  The Project screen will either display the Card View or List View.  Click the Card View button on the toolbar to switch to Card View.



Customizing Project Cards

Click the Display Settings button to display a popup menu.  This lets you hide or show the various metrics on the project cards. 


Coloring Project Cards

Click the Color By button to display a popup menu.  This lets choose the data attribute that you wish to color the project cards.  The color designated by the data attribute will be used to color each project card for easier identification of projects that you are interested in.  


Example: You may want color the project cards according to their current status so you can see which projects are in bidding, awarded, in progress, completed, etc.


Favorite Projects

To pin a project to the top of the Projects screen, simply find the project in the Projects screen and hover over the card and click the Add Favorite button in the top right corner of the project card.  This will favorite the project and move the project to the top section of the Projects screen.


To remove a project from the favorites section of the Projects screen, simply find the project and hover over the card and click the Remove Favorite button in the top right corner of the project card.  This will remove the project from the favorites section and move it back into the main list of projects in the Projects screen.


If you just want to see your favorite projects and hide the main list of projects, then click the Show Project List toolbar button on the Projects screen.  This will show just your favorite projects.


Quick Access to a Project

Click on a project card and it will display a popup menu that lets you quickly access the project's dashboard, tasks screen, Gantt screen, staff usage screen or Kanban board.


Searching and Filtering

As the list of projects gets bigger, you may want to search for specific projects or filter the list of projects by certain attributes.


Enter a search term into the Search field and click the Search button to list all projects with that text in their project name, description, customer name and other text fields.


Click the Filter Settings button to apply a filter to the list of projects.  You can filter by any project attribute.  You can sort the list of projects by any project attribute.  Click the Clear Filter Settings button to remove the filter.


Filtering by Project Progress

If you just want to wish to see all completed projects, or all non-completed projects or all in-progress projects, then you can click the Display Settings button and turn on/off the progress percentage menu items to hide or show projects based on their percentage progress. 


Example: If you want to see only the projects that have not yet started, then on the Display Settings popup menu, turn off all progress percentage menu items except for 0%.


Saving & Recalling Project Views

If you create a view of the Projects screen that you like, then you can save it so that you can recall it at any time.  This lets you have a set of different views of the Project Card screen for getting different views on your projects.


Example: You may want to have a view so you can see all projects that have Bidding status.  Or you you may want to have a view of all projects for a particular customer.  Or, you may want a view of all non-completed projects.


After you have configured the Projects screen as you like, click the Save As Project View menu item to save the view.  You will be prompted to provide a name for the view.  For example, "Projects in Bidding".  The view will be saved and listed on the Project View popup menu.


If you wish to make changes to an existing view, then configure the Projects screen as you wish and then click the Update Project View button next to the view in the Project View popup menu.  You will be prompted to optionally change the name of the project view and then the view will be updated with the new configuration.


If you wish to delete a project view, click the Delete Project View button next to the project view in the Project View popup menu.


By default, a saved project view can only be viewed and edited by the user that created it.  You can also share your project views with other users.  This is handy when working in teams or when a company wishes to standardize on a set of views.  To share a project view, click the Share Project View button next to the project view.  This will display the Share View screen.  To allow all users to use the project view, click the Public radio button.  To share the project view with a limited set of users, click the Private radio button and click the Members button to select the users that you wish to share the project view with.  By default, only you can edit your project view to make changes.  If you wish to allow other users to edit the project view, click the Members button next to Editing Permissions to select the other users that can edit the project view.
