Editing a Chart in a Data View

Data views that have numeric or financial data can also have charts.


You can create as many charts as you wish for a data view.


To edit a chart for a data view, follow these steps:

  1. Click on the data view from the left sidebar to open the data view.
  2. Click on chart tab that you wish to edit.  This will display the chart.
  3. Click the Edit button on the data view toolbar to display the Edit Chart screen. 



Name

Enter the name of the chart.  This is displayed as the title of the chart.


Description

Enter an optional description for the chart.  This is displayed under the title of the chart.


Chart Type

Select the type of chart you wish to create.  Depending on the chart type the remaining fields below will be displayed.


Legend

Select whether if you wish to have a legend (or key) and where you like to have it positioned next to the chart.


Horizontal Axis

Select the field from your data view that you wish to display on the horizontal axis.  This will display the Edit Field screen which lets you select the field from your data view and enter a display name for the horizontal axis.

The horizontal axis format lets you manipulate the display text that is displayed for each column on the horizontal axis.  By default, the horizontal axis field is used by itself.  You can also add text before or after the data field to serve as a prefix or suffix to help make the chart more readable. 


Vertical Axis

Select the field from your data view that you wish to display on the vertical axis.  This will display the Edit Field screen which lets you select the field from your data view and enter a display name for the vertical axis.

The vertical axis format lets you manipulate the display text that is displayed for each column on the vertical axis.  By default, the vertical axis field is used by itself.  You can also add text before or after the data field to serve as a prefix or suffix to help make the chart more readable.


Stacked / Grouped

When you have multiple data fields displayed on a single axis, you can choose to have the data  displayed as:

  • Stacked.  The data fields will be added on top of each other in a single column.
  • Grouped.  The data fields will grouped alongside each other in multiple columns.


Bubble Size

When you have chose a Bubble chart, then you can choose the data field that represents the size of the bubble.


Pie Slice Names

When you have chosen a Pie chart or Doughnut chart, then you can choose the data field that represents the names of each slice in the pie chart or doughnut chart.

When you have chosen a Pie chart or Doughnut chart, then you can choose the data field that represents the size of each slice in the pie chart or doughnut chart.
