What are Custom Fields in Projectal?

Modified on Tue, 7 May at 8:58 AM

Custom fields allow your company to extend Projectal with extra data points that you need to be stored in Projectal.

If Projectal is missing a data field that you use in your company, then you can easily add that into Projectal by adding a custom field for it.  This lets you collect and view this extra data just like you collect and view any other data in Projectal.

Coverage

You can add custom fields to any entity in Projectal - such as projects, staff, resources, departments, tasks and more. This provides you with great flexibility to extend Projectal to meet your needs.  You can add as many custom fields as you like.

Types

You can choose from a wide selection of field types to define your custom fields - including

  • string
  • integer
  • long integer
  • boolean
  • float
  • double
  • date
  • byte
  • lists

Display Names and Tooltips

You can specify the display name and a helpful tooltips to help users enter custom field data on the screens in Projectal.

Data Views and Reports

You can access all your custom fields in data views so you can add your custom fields to your reports.

Permissions

You can set permissions on custom fields just like you set permissions on any other field in Projectal.  This lets you hide or show or make read-only any of your custom fields to individual users or groups of users of Projectal.

Connector Applications, RESTful API and Python Library

You can access your custom fields in your connector applications using the Projectal RESTful API and Python library.  This lets you add, update and remove data for custom fields from the other tools used at your company.
