What are Activities in Projectal?

Modified on Fri, 09 Jun 2023 at 04:09 PM

Activities are work events that are not directly involved in projects.  You need to track these non-project activities so you can make sure there are no scheduling conflicts when booking staff onto projects or assigning staff to tasks.

You can create and manage activities for staff via the Staff Planner.

Example: John is attending a conference for a week in New York.  This is not directly related to a project, so is considered a work activity.

Example: Sally is attending a training course for 2 weeks in July.  This is not directly related to a project, so is considered a work activity.

Example: Kelly is travelling and meeting potential new clients for 4 weeks in December.  This is not directly related to a project, so is considered a work activity.

You can create and manage activities for resources via the Resource Planner.

Example: The company's virtual production studio will be upgraded with new screens in August so will be unavailable for project work.

Example: The company's RED SCARLET-W 5K camera is not functioning properly and will be being serviced for the next 2 weeks.

Activities have a name, start date, finish date and duration.

Activities can have a description, notes and color to better describe the activity.

Activity Stage

Activities can have a stage associated with them.  This helps you understand the current status of an activity.  You can create a set of stages that you want your activities to have via the Project Stages screen in the Management screen.  Typical stage values for an activity could be Draft, Pending, Approved and Rejected.

Example: Mary wishes to attend a conference in July.  It has not yet been approved by management, so the activity's stage has been set to "Activity Pending".

Example: Antonio will be attending a 2 week training course in April and it has been signed off by management, so its Stage is set to "Activity Approved".
