Entering Work Effort for Tasks

As staff complete tasks, their work effort can be logged directly into Projectal so that you can view and track the actual duration and actual costs for completing tasks in a project.


Projectal calculates the actual duration and actual costs for tasks, summary tasks and projects in real-time.  This gives you up-to-date visibility of the Budget vs. Actual costs and duration at all levels in a project.


To enter work effort (or actual duration) by assigned staff for a task, follow these steps:

  1. Click the Projects menu item on the left sidebar to display the Projects screen.
  2. Locate the project and click it to enter the project.
  3. Click the Tasks or Gantt menu items on left sidebar to display the Tasks screen or Gantt screen.
  4. Locate the task and select it and click Edit Task button the toolbar on the Tasks screen or Gantt screen.
  5. On the Edit Task screen, locate the Actual Duration section and click on it to display the Edit Actual Duration screen.



Staff

The staff members assigned to the task are listed under the Staff column.


Effort To Date

The total work effort to date for each assigned staff member is listed under the Effort To Date column.


Tip: Click the Clear Effort To Date button to clear out all work effort for an assigned staff member.


New Effort

Enter the time spent on the task by an assigned staff member and click the Commit button.


You can use the following units to specify work effort by the assigned staff:

  • m - minutes.  Example: 30m = 30 minutes.
  • h - hours.  Examples: 6h = 6 hours. 1.5h = 90 minutes.
  • D - days.  Examples: 10D = 10 days. 3.5D = 3.5 days.
  • W - weeks.  Examples: 3W = 3 weeks. 6.5W = 6.5 weeks. 
  • M - months.  Example: 2M = 2 months. 1.25M = 1.25 months.
  • Y - years.  Example: 1Y = 1 year.  2.5Y = 2.5 years.


Total

Displays the total amount of time spent completing the task by all the assigned staff.
